Thank you, Butte!
The Montana Plan team and I cannot express enough gratitude to Butte for the warm welcome we received while planning the Pete Buttigieg X The Montana Plan Town Hall. The community exemplified the best of Montana and helped make this event possible in so many ways.
Let’s start with the wonderful staff at the historic Mother Lode Theater. Matt, Layne, and their crew were fantastic.
Next door, Bernie with the Knights of Columbus building prepared the ballroom for overflow viewers of the Town Hall, which was so appreciated.
Down the street, the Fifty One Below Speakeasy opened its doors for a small cohort of eight young Montanans to speak with Secretary Buttigieg in a private, ambient setting. Thank you to the speakeasy staff and Miner’s Hotel.
Although it's impossible to cover Butte history in such a short time, Bill Foley and Evan Barrett gave Secretary Buttigieg an enriching tour upon his arrival in the city that no one else could. Their wisdom led to an anecdote at the Town Hall by the Secretary!
Volunteers put the The Montana Plan in motion, and we loved having Missoula volunteer  Meredith Printz kick the event off. Another volunteer community leader in Butte, Lisa Ferino, has worked tirelessly to facilitate signature gathering and other support for the I-194 initiative process. She and her local volunteer group were instrumental organizers of this event, and we could not have done it without them.
Thank you to former governor Steve Bullock for speaking and to former Montana state senator Carol Williams for joining us in the crowd.
Of course, a big thank you to everyone that showed up on a chilly Sunday afternoon to fill the Mother Lode to the brim! Even with an hour-and-a-half long line, 1200+ Montanans braved the cold with positivity and graciousness. There wasn't a single negative incident, and we thank local law enforcement and the City of Butte for having us.
Finally, a special shout-out to Pete Buttigieg and his team for choosing Montana and Butte, America as a stop to discuss important issues with Montanans regardless of political party. They were a wonderful team to work with and are a blueprint for conduct between officials and the communities they visit.
