Community Event in Bozeman to Spotlight  TEI’s “The Montana Plan” Constitutional Initiative
Bozeman Forum to Unpack Montana’s Fight Against Citizens United on September 30th
BOZEMAN – A public forum will take place on Tuesday, September 30th to educate and mobilize citizens around The Montana Plan, a first-in-the-nation effort designed to eliminate corporate and dark money from politics, in essence, to undo Citizens United.
The event is scheduled for 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the Bozeman Library, 626 E. Main St. The TEI forum will feature presentations on Montana’s long fight against corporate influence in politics, the history of dark money in the state, and how The Montana Plan offers a groundbreaking constitutional solution.
Aimed at the 2026 ballot, The Montana Plan would amend Montana’s constitution to no longer grant corporations and secret-donor groups—referred to as “Artificial Persons”—the power to spend to sway candidate campaigns and ballot measures. It is built upon the state’s absolute authority to define and redefine the corporations they create.
The Montana Plan was launched by the Transparent Election Initiative, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization founded by Jeff Mangan, former Montana Commissioner of Political Practices, as a constitutional amendment strategy to halt corporate and dark‑money influence.
Speakers at the September 30th event will include veteran election leaders and local organizers who will explain how Montanans can take back their politics and lead the nation in making Citizens United irrelevant.
“This is Montana stepping forward to defend democracy in the way we always have—by putting people before powerful interests,” said Jeff Mangan.
The event is free and open to the public.
